Travelers' allocation of a significant portion of their expenditure for food and drink has led to the evolution of gastronomy tourism through the use of regional cuisine and beverages. This study set out to assess Benin City’s (the capital of Edo state, Nigeria) potential for gastronomic tourism. The respondents from Benin City showed a substantial level of awareness of indigenous foods in Benin City, and desire to participate in food festivals and food tourism. Respondents will eat ponded yam very often, preferences to soup indicates that respondents would like to eat Owotor and Black soup every now and then, followed by Egusi and Owo soup, while the Ikpowho soup will be a choice only if available. The distribution by snacks shows that Uloka and Akasan is preferred above Eka-Iyan, Kolanut and Ikoka, ogoro is preferred to Udegboto among indigenous drinks. Edo State government and the monarchy system of Benin City should give gastronomy tourism planning and development careful consideration to facilitate destination branding/place image of Benin City. More so, traditional education system for knowledge passing about the production process of these identified indigenous food to both indigenes and tourists that visits Benin City should be priortized.
Opeyemi Iyinoluwa Alabi Copyright (c) 2023 http://auchipolyjournals.com/index.php/ijist/article/view/60 Thu, 30 Nov 2023 00:00:00 +0000 DEVELOPMENT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ACRYLIC COAT FROM LOCALLY SOURCED FILLER FOR ARTISTIC APPLICATIONS http://auchipolyjournals.com/index.php/ijist/article/view/61
In general, acrylic paints are intricate chemical systems requiring complex characterization similar to polymer compounds with variety of additives. Therefore, careful precision separations and reaction specificity are essential to detect consecutively the polymer matrix and fillers. In this research, typical samples of acrylic coats for artists was developed and characterized using by Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The entire samples to be analyzed expected to be bounded in acrylic resin, a binary copolymer of methyl metha acrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate (BA), styrene (ST), acrylic acid (AA), fillers from locally sourced (CaCO3) and pigmentations. Adequate artistic test will be carried out on canvas involving varieties of the produced colours. The result showed that the produced acrylic paint possessed excellent adhesion properties canvas and demonstrated robust texture upon application on canvas.
Sunday Lawani , Iliya Ezekiel Copyright (c) 2023 http://auchipolyjournals.com/index.php/ijist/article/view/61 Thu, 30 Nov 2023 00:00:00 +0000 DEVELOPMENT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF DUAL SUBSTITUTED (K+ AND NO3−) CALCIUM PHOSPHATE NANOFERTILIZER http://auchipolyjournals.com/index.php/ijist/article/view/62
Calcium Phosphate (CaP) urea based nanofertilizer is a new frontier and alternative to commercial fertilizer in enhancing plant yield in nutrient defficient soil. This study will substituted CaP (Ca10-x/2-aKa(PO4)6-y(NO3)y(OH)2) with nutrient and thereafter form a CaP-urea nanofertilizer composite (NKHA) using wet chemical technique. A combination of essential nutrient and minor nutrient is proposed as substituent nutrient such as K+ and NO3¯. The crystallinity, chemical constituent and particle sizes was investigated using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The physicochemical properties of NKHA revealed a crystallite size (dScherer) of 60.54 nm, particle size from TEM (STEM) of 30.50 nm, Ca/P ratio of 1.67 and globular morphology.Variance plant activities; such as folia growth rates are analyzed after applying 2, 4 and 6 g of synthesized NKHA on selected plant samples. The influence of the substituted ions in NKHA reveal enhanced plant yield and folia growth.
Michael Cyril Ozekhome, Iliya Ezekiel, Akinwumi Olurotimi Akinbolusere Copyright (c) 2023 http://auchipolyjournals.com/index.php/ijist/article/view/62 Wed, 01 Nov 2023 00:00:00 +0000 FOOD FRAUD, A DECEPTIVE PRACTICE THAT COMPROMISE THE INTEGRITY OF THE FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN IN NIGERIA http://auchipolyjournals.com/index.php/ijist/article/view/63
The prevalence of food fraud marked by intentional deception in the production, distribution, and sale of food products for economic gain, has emerged as a pressing concern in Nigeria, posing significant threats to public health, economic stability, and consumer trust.
