Abstract

Human trafficking among Edo Women has recently assumed a disturbing dimension. Historically, Edo State has had early interactions with the Europeans World even before the time of slavery and slave trade. Some business transactions then started between some Europeans and Edo Women. But in recent times, with socio- cultural and economic deprivation, together with the failure of most Africans states especially the Nigerian state, there is a tremendous rise in the phenomenon of women trafficking in Edo State. And this phenomenon actually came to replace the age long legitimate businesses between the Edo and Europeans. This study therefore, examine some socio- economic factors driving human trafficking in Edo State with specific focus on two Local Government Area in Edo North. The study employed the survey interview as its method of primary data collection in addition to secondary source such as books, journals, newspaper, reports, unpublished works etc. A sample of three hundred 300 women each will be selected by means of purposive sampling from the study location of Edo North, specifically in Owan East and Etsako West Local Government Areas. The research questions will be answered using data collected from the field survey. The research will reveal the major causes of human trafficking among Edo Women as well as the social and economic impact of trafficking in Edo North. Based on the findings the study will provide recommendations
