This paper examines the relationships between good governance, security and sustainable economic development in Nigeria. It focused on good governance as a key driver to sustainable economic development. Security is tied to both social, political and economic growth and development of a nation. The paper revealed good governance as the panacea for enduring security and sustainable economic development in the country; that despite the various developmental plans, the foreign aids received, the natural resources tapped, Nigeria is still far from being a developed nation because of bad governance. It concluded that to maintain security and attain sustainable economic development in Nigeria, good governance that ensures accountability, transparency, sovereignty, civil liberty and rule of law should be given a place of priority in the society. The paper therefore suggests that governance in Nigeria should bestrengthened, put in place appropriate economic policies to attain the set developmental objectives, such as surveillance and protective service delivery, creation of employment opportunities, and programmes that will enhance the aspirations of the citizens.
Government should enforce the rule of law and employ good democratic principles to checkmate the current security challenges that have bedeviled the country.
