Abstract

This study examined Chief Executive Officer (CEO) attributes and firm performance in Nigeria. The broad objective of the study is to examine whether CEO gender, CEO nationality and CEO share ownership affect firm performance of the listed manufacturing. The secondary source of data collection was adopted in the study where the purposive sampling technique was used to select a sample size of thirty-nine (39) listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Ordinary Least Square regression analysis was used in this study and the
findings revealed that CEO nationality has no significant effect on firm performance of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria and that CEO share ownership has no significant effect on firm performance of listed manufacturing firms in Nigeria. The study recommended amongst others that female CEOs should be considered more often, because the results show that they have a positive effect on firm performance and that directors need to be encouraged to consider insiders in the appointment to the position when the need arises.
